Marcus A. Stanley, MPH, MCHES®

Founder, President, and Chief Executive Officer

Marcus A. Stanley, MPH, MCHES® (He, Him, His) is a scholar, change agent, public health practitioner, and orator. He has dedicated over 15 years to trauma-informed, community-based participatory research and advocacy. He completed his Masters of Public Health (MPH) at Emory University, with a concentration in Prevention Science. Throughout his career, he has worked with various organizations conducting capacity-building activities, trainings, and consultations as well as conducted social work and public health research, particularly around organizational structure, policies, and procedures, and the impact it has on serving underserved communities. Also, throughout his career, there was always a “code switch” to where he has never been allowed to bring his full self to the workplace.

While employed at the University of Houston’s Graduate College of Social Work, he began to develop language and engage in study around what is called, Dismantling White Supremacy Work Culture. Mr. Stanley knew that his experiences were not unique and that racism, systemic oppression, and more specifically anti-Black policies and procedures are the root causes of this experience.

Mr. Stanley wanted to honor and further, the labor put in by Tema Okun and others noted in the document, “white supremacy culture” and began to develop a curriculum around the work and actualize the dismantling of white supremacy work culture with various organizations. He later presented this work to multiple national, state, and local conferences.

After submitting to the 2020 Texas HIV/STD Conference and having his abstract, Dismantling White Supremacy Work Culture: Implications to End the Epidemic, accept and then later rescinded because of white fragility, he knew there was so much work to be done! He took his hurt, anger, and frustration and created Black Power, Liberation & Healing Now, Inc. to expand the reach of dismantling white supremacy work culture while creating Black liberation.
